CoolGames launch Tetris on the Instant Video Games Platform for Facebook Messenger

Tetris, the game which captivated audiences around the world when it was launched over 30 years ago could find a whole new audience on Facebook messenger this Christmas. The shape stacking marvel that spawned the Tetris Craze can now be played instantly and shared with friends around the world.

The Tale of Tetris

The tile-matching puzzle video game Tetris was developed by a Russian Games designer Alexey Pajitnov. It was the first game to be exported from the Soviet Union to the United States. It was published originally for the IBM PC and the Commodore 64. Tetris remains a much-loved video game with its Tetromino shapes and addictive gameplay and has a track record of being the first to launch on new platforms.

Marathon Mode and Simple Friend Invites

New features added to the Tetris game in advance of the launch include Marathon Mode, where players are set the task of clearing lines with a goal of achieving a huge score. There are new high score leaderboards, easy to use friend invites and daily missions. Group play is another new platform feature that allows fans to connect and play in a way never seen before.

Tetris the Mobile BestSeller

In January 2010 Tetris became the bestselling paid download game with over 100 million copies sold for mobile phones. This is in addition to the 70 million physical copies sold around the world.

Could Messaging Apps Challenge PlayStation?

Messaging Apps look set to become the next big games platform. This could unlock a new audience for video games according to Laurens Rutten, CEO at CoolGames. If Laurens is proven correct, it opens up a vast new market for video games as Facebook Messenger boasts a staggering global audience in excess of 1.3 Billion.

Video console makers reacted to this possible challenge to their market dominance by integrating social networks into their latest consoles from the start. The Sony PlayStation 4 allows users to upload and stream gameplay directly to social media. However still lacks the accessibility and portability offered by the mobile phone.

Tetris was released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in March 2016 a release which coincided with the 30th Anniversary of the game.

Current games available on Facebook Messenger lack the scale, complexity and graphic wonders offered by today’s leading edge games consoles. How long will this be the case? The simple mobile phone has become more powerful by the day. The ability to cast a mobile screen directly to large screen TV is already in existence. So perhaps, the day of the big console box sat underneath the family television may be drawing to a close.
